#4 RUN A HALF MARATHON

This weekend we drove up to Fort Worth for the Jalapeno Half Marathon.  Whitney and I decided in January that we wanted to run one, so we looked at the calendar and picked one for June since we'd both be out from school for the summer... we started training, and as the distance got longer and longer, the temperature outside got hotter and hotter!  What were we thinking signing up for a half marathon in June?!  The race definitely lived up to its name - it was scorching hot - but we finished!  Here's us crossing the finish line and then wearing our medals after.  Needless to say, we didn't sign up for the jalapeno eating contest afterward.

Since January, we have run 275 miles.  As much as I'm proud of running those 13.1 miles on Saturday, I'm even more proud of the commitment we made and lived up to for the last several months.  There were days when it was cold, days when it was hot, days when we felt stressed, and days when we just felt lazy.  We've been sore and stiff.  We've been nearly eaten alive by mosquitos.  The humidity has been suffocating. We've scheduled our lives around long runs on the weekends and we've adjusted when and what we eat throughout the week.  But we did it!

So, do we want to do it again?  That's what everyone keeps asking me.  I think so!  But we definitely won't be signing up for any more summer races - there's a reason why most marathons and half marathons are during the fall and winter months!  Lesson learned.
