Typical Yet-Not-So-Typical Tuesday Night

Brent has homework every night.  He always has some sort of test to study for, too.  But what doesn't happen very often is that he gets to do homework or study at home... too many distractions, our slow low-budget internet service, no one to check answers with... but tonight was one of those occasional nights that he got to stay home.

So tonight we made dinner - baked barbeque chicken, steamed squash and zucchini, and sauteed asparagus with bacon (because everything, even asparagus, tastes amazing when flavored with bacon)... then we made a late night Sonic run to split a chocolate milkshake before hitting the books and papers-to-grade stack.

Though not a particularly eventful or interesting post, we live for evenings like this.  It feels like they are numbered... Brent will go on a ninety day cruise this summer starting in May, starts fall semester classes the moment he walks off the ship, followed by another spring semester and another summer cruise in   2014.  Somewhere in there he'll graduate and will begin working off shore as soon as possible.  In his industry, he needs three to five years of offshore experience, putting us at ages 28 and 30 before he can look at on shore positions.  By that point, we're hoping to start a family.  And from what I hear from my friends starting families, quiet evenings and quality time are hard to come by.

God's Word says that we shouldn't worry about tomorrow, because today has enough troubles of its own... that's something I've really struggled with thinking about the years ahead of so much time spent apart... but it has reminded me to enjoy every moment of our first year together, especially all those Typical Tuesdays... and Wednesdays... and Thursdays... and Fridays.  :)  Making dinner, finishing homework, grading papers, and late night milkshake runs are simply better together.
